Samsung Confirms No Android 14 Update for Galaxy S20 and Note 20 Series

Samsung's Android 14 update plans for its Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series have left consumers in a state of perplexity. The rollercoaster of expectations began with promising reports of these older devices being eligible for the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update. However, a subsequent contradiction from the tech giant stated that these devices would not receive the coveted software upgrade. Let's delve into the details.

Initial reports ignited excitement among owners of Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 Plus, Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, and Galaxy Z Flip. These devices were all listed as eligible for the Android 14 update, an unexpected fourth generation of Android OS updates for these models. Furthermore, newer Samsung devices were also poised to benefit, potentially making them early adopters of One UI 6.

However, the plot thickened when Samsung clarified its stance. According to the updated information, both the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy S20 will not be graced with the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update, despite their mention in a Samsung article related to One UI 6. Instead, these devices will receive a somewhat consolation prize in the form of Galaxy Enhance-X features.

The source of this confusion can be traced back to a statement within Samsung's article that listed eligible devices for Galaxy Enhance-X features. In this list, the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 were included. Nevertheless, the wording of the statement caused an understandable misinterpretation. It became evident that Samsung's initial inclusion of these devices was an error, given the company's prior commitment to providing only three major Android OS updates for the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series.

Samsung had consistently adhered to its three-year update policy for these smartphones, commencing with Android 10 and followed by updates to Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13. Notably, the Galaxy S21 series marked an improvement with four years of Android OS updates, but this extended support was not extended to the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy S20.
